Formica manufacture a range of laminate and solid surfacing products used by architects and interior designers across a range of exciting retail, commercial, hospitality and residential projects around the world.
To celebrate and promote the launch of the new Formica 2015 Collection, we were asked to look at a digital solution to display the wide variety of surfaces in the updated range. As well as hundreds of different colours, the range also features a selection of different patterns, textures and even bespoke, digitally printed surfaces.
To sit alongside our creative film, we built an interactive room set application featuring four bespoke environments. We designed and modeled them in 3D to represent each of the key sectors in which Formica are active. Users could interact with the environments by selecting any of the roomâ€™s furniture, walls, counters and doors, applying their chosen Formica and building the environments of their choice.
We launched the app at one of the main furniture EXPOs in Frankfurt, where users were able to interact with either a large wall mounted touchscreen or with a selection of iPads available on the stand. Formica were amazed at our ability to design and build a fully interactive tool to such a tight deadline, and we are now looking at creating a web based solution to be integrated into Formica's main brand website.
