The Brief

bwin asked us to design and build an interactive penalty shootout game to help promote their brand. It needed to be fun, engaging and help highlight their high-profile links with a number of European football teams. The game needed to work on mobile devices operating on just a 3G connection.

The Concept

To make our game engaging, we built an intelligent game logic for swiping the ball, for determining misses, goals and saves and how much players could win in free bets based on the success of their penalty taking. We needed to compress large video files into a small format. This meant the game could be loaded quickly, without compromising the quality.

The Results

We successfully reduced video files down from 100s of megabytes to under a 100k by using a clever image sequencing technique. The finished product was a highly entertaining and intuitive game and a great result for bwin. They are so happy with the game that they have used it as an acquisition device in a large-scale paid media campaign in their key territories of Germany and Spain.
