Senior Site Reliability Engineer

We’ve got an exciting opportunity for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join us in Leeds. We’re after someone to create reliable, scalable and maintainable platforms, reporting directly into our Head of Development & Platforms. You’ll work closely with Platform Architects and Senior Software Engineers in your day-to-day, as well as wider teams including Project Management, Insight & Strategy, Experience Design, Data & Insight and Search.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Creating deployment strategies and automation tools
  • Owning platform automation and documentation and championing the standardisation of environments
  • Defining, refining and communicating HOME’s DevOps process and best practices, and educating your team about DevOps technology
  • Utilising DevOps practices and tools to ensure all platforms are planned, run and maintained with reliability, efficiency, and scalability in mind
  • Complete ownership of platform run tasks like monitoring, performance and capacity planning, and disaster response
  • Being heavily involved in pre-run tasks like development pipelines/automation, content migration and data pipeline integrations
  • Delivering against the 2020 Digital Experience Strategy
  • Improving project efficiency with strong communication of our core principles and processes
  • Monitoring and reporting on running projects

Candidates will need at least ten years of experience in development, plus five years in SRE/Ops and significant experience in at least one of AWS/GCP/Azure. Other essential skills include:

  • Cloud networking
  • Significant experience with Containers, Dockers and Kubernetes
  • Cloud provisioning frameworks: Terraform, Serverless framework
  • Provisioning frameworks: Chef, Puppet, Ansible
  • Logging, collection and reporting with system like ELK or Prometheus
  • Experience with Agile/DevOps delivery methodologies and best practice
  • Experience CI/CD, Product Development Lifecycles, Cloud technologies and platform Integration
  • Expert knowledge in at least one of the following: Python/ JavaScript/ ELT/ETL scripts

  • Cloud data lakes/warehouses (Google BigQuery, AWS Redshift, AWS Athena etc)
  • Knowledge and experience of cloud data platforms (Google Dataflow, AWS Glue, AWS Kinesis etc)
  • AWS CodeBuild/CodeDeploy
  • Data pipelines
  • Large scale websites
  • Automated testing
  • Exposure/experience with APM/RUM
